In Belgium, Leen Peeters aimed to turn a traditional cottage into a modern, yet authentic family home that requires virtually no non-renewable energy for heating. In other words: a nearly zero-energy building. From 2013 to 2015, not only one, but three Etex companies helped her out with the right kind of hi-tech building materials for the job.
Promat supplied Slimvac vacuum insulation panels. Not only to insulate the front door, but also to keep certain parts of the cavity wall as small as possible, while maintaining the same energy efficiency. To ensure that the insulation could support the windows, they were placed in frames made of Siniat’s Duripanel wood fibre sheets. Inside of the house, the plasterboards went well with the look of the old brick walls. Outside, Eternit’s rustic-looking Ambiente clay roof tiles were the perfect match for the stone façade. Finally, the Eter-Backer HD building boards made it possible to install matching stone strips.
The result? “We managed to create a pleasant home environment without compromising on comfort and energy efficiency”, says home-owner Leen.
